National Honor Society
Welcome to Belvidere High School's National Honor Society webpage. Four main purposes have guided chapters of NHS from the beginning: "To create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools." (from the NHS Constitution) These purposes also translate into the criteria used for membership selection in each local chapter.
Peer tutoring for high school as well as district middle school students is provided at no cost.
Various individual and group service projects are completed as members provide at least 10 hours of community service a year.
Annual Blood Drives (fall and spring) are in coordination with the Miller-Keystone Blood Center, which provides blood and blood products to our regional hospitals and medical centers.
Meetings are held bi-monthly.
Induction will take place in the fall. Eligibility will be based on the previous academic year's GPA. Students with Unweighted GPAs of 3.7 or above and/or Weighted GPAs of 4.0 or above will be considered for membership. Students who are academically eligible will receive an invitation to a Google Classroom with instructions, application and due dates.
Academically eligible students will need to complete and submit a Student Activity Information Form. High School faculty will be asked for input on character, leadership and service. Once this information has been received, a five member Faculty Selection Committe will meet to decide which students meet the criteria and will be invited to become members.
